The Difference between the Six Workdays and Shabbat
139. The Difference between the Six Workdays and Shabbat
I heard
The six workdays are considered ZA, and Shabbat [Sabbath] is considered Malchut. And he asked, “But ZA is a higher degree than Malchut, so why is Shabbat more important than the weekdays? And also, why are they called Yemey Hol [weekdays/days without holiness]?”
The thing is that the world is nourished only through Malchut. This is why Malchut is called “the assembly of Israel,” since all the good influence to the whole of Israel comes from there. Therefore, although the six days imply ZA, there is no unification between ZA and Malchut. This is why it is called Hol [not holy], since no abundance extends from ZA to Malchut.
And when no Kedusha [holiness] extends from Malchut, it is therefore called Yemey Hol. Conversely, on Shabbat there is a unification of ZA and Malchut, and then Kedusha extends from Malchut. This is why it is called Shabbat.
