Those of Little Faith
606. Those of Little Faith
Having little faith means that he does not want only to bestow. “He who makes his voice heard during his prayer is of those of little faith.”
We should ask, When one prays to the Creator, he certainly believes in the Creator, so what is the difference? If he makes his voice heard, is he no longer regarded as believing in the Creator, but if he prays in a whisper, he is regarded as believing in the Creator? What is the difference, since whether in a whisper or out loud, one must believe that the Creator hears the prayer? This implies that if he prays, he must have faith, so what is the connection of one to the other?
We should say, as is explained in the Sulam [Ladder commentary on The Zohar], that prayer in a whisper that we learn from Hannah, as it is written, “And her voice was not heard,” he interprets that the voice of Malchut, called “will to receive,” is not heard. Rather, the prayer is for the quality of the desire to bestow, meaning for the Creator to send him from above the power of purity called “desire to bestow.”
It follows that one who sounds his voice, meaning the voice of the will to receive, although he believes in the Creator and asks the Creator to help him, he is of those of little faith, since the heart of the faith when a person believes in the Creator should be for the Creator to send us the spirit of purity, called “desire to bestow,” and then the delight and pleasure that is in the purpose of creation can clothe in the desire to bestow.
