275. I Wish They Left Me and Kept My Law

“I wish they left Me and kept My Torah [law]” (Jerusalem Talmud, Hagigah, 6b). One should not think that if he sees tokens and signs from the Creator, he will be able to engage in Torah and Mitzvot [commandments]. Rather, “and kept My Torah,” meaning that only through the Torah does one acquire the strength to engage in Torah and Mitzvot for the sake of the Creator.

The proof of this is the tearing of the Red Sea, where after all the miracles and wonders, Amalek still had the power to come and fight against Israel.
