Hanu-KoH

Hanukkah, Kislev-Tevet, December 1954

NeR [candle], an acronym for Nefesh Ruach. We must extend light, which is the quality of Neshama, as in “A candle is a Mitzva [commandment], and the Torah is light,” and this is Hanu-Koh [parked here].

Koh [here] means the quality of Malchut, as in the weak hand. Hanu [parked] comes from the verse, “the angels of the Lord Honeh [parks],” meaning that the Shechina [Divinity] must have a place in which to park within man’s heart.

This is as our sages said, “What is Hanukkah? When the Greeks entered the Hall, they defiled all the oils … they checked but found one jar of oil that was sealed with the seal of the high priest.” Man’s heart is called “the hall of the Creator.” “Defiled all the oils” means all the sacred wisdoms.

“Finally, they found one jar of oil that was sealed with the seal of the high priest.” Pach [jar] has the letters of Chaf [a spoon], meaning the unification of the Shema reading. “Placed” means that no one wanted to lift it.

The high priest is called “upper Abba,” and the oil is signed and sealed, oil, as in “pure air.”
