880. Judgments
Rosh Hashanah, September 1974
“Judgments” means the Kli [vessel] of the will to receive on which a judgment was passed that it is forbidden to use it from the Tzimtzum [restriction] onward.
“Sweetening of the judgments” means that one can place on them Masachim [screens], meaning he can use the Kelim [pl. of Kli], which are regarded as judgments, in order to bestow.
Hesed [grace/mercy] means that one engages in acts of bestowal. A “simple voice” means that the act and the thought are similar. This is called “straight.” For example, when one engages in acts of bestowal and his aim is also to bestow, it is regarded as “straight and simple.”
Also, receiving in order to receive is called “simple,” and the light prior to the Tzimtzum is called “simple light.” This means that the light illuminated in the Kelim that are called “receiving in order to receive.” Afterward, after the Tzimtzum, there are many calculations, meaning it is no longer straight, as in “God created man straight, but they sought many calculations.”
It follows that the act of receiving and the aim should be to bestow.
