Rabash / The Trueness of Providence

838. The Trueness of Providence

It is known that the purpose of creation is to do good to His creations. It is impossible to be rewarded with the goal before one corrects oneself with the quality of equivalence, called the quality of Hesed. Afterward, he will be rewarded with the goal, called “truth,” and then the trueness of His Providence is apparent—that it is in the manner of good and doing good.

We see that the verse says, “What does the Lord your God ask of you? Only to fear Me.” In other words, a person must be rewarded with fear of heaven. This is the only thing that one should try to merit, as it is written, “but fear.” This is called “the quality of faith,” where one must believe in the Creator, as our sages said, “The eye sees, the ear hears, and all Your deeds are written in the book.”

A person can check if he believes in this, for he can take an example from the fear of flesh and blood. For example, when a person looks through the window into his neighbor’s home, he will certainly not do anything unless it is good in the eyes of his friend, and he will certainly not do something inappropriate.

It follows that when a person is alone in the room, if he believes that “the eye sees,” he cannot do anything that the Creator does not like, just as he will not do anything bad while his neighbor is looking at him.

For this reason, if one sees that he is doing things not according to the Creator’s will, he must certainly say that he does not believe in “the eye sees.” Otherwise, he would not be able to do these deeds.

Likewise, if his friend could look into his mind and would know what his friend thinks, he would certainly not think any bad thoughts because he would not want to be disgraced in the eyes of his friend.

Accordingly, if a person believes that the Creator knows the thoughts, how can one think thoughts that are not according to the Creator’s will? Hence, he sees that he does not have real faith. For this reason, this is a true test to know whether he has faith.

When one sees that his faith is inappropriate, it is considered that he is lacking fear of heaven and needs the Creator to send him.
