823. The Name Shadai
The matter of creation is as it is interpreted in The Zohar: The world was created with [the letter] Bet and not in the other letters, meaning that when He created the world with the Bet, His intention was that the Bet would govern in the world, that its power would work in the world. Also, Jacob’s blessing was similar, that He gave power to Menashe and Ephraim that their quality would reign in the world, for through those two qualities the whole of Israel emerged from the general exile. It is likewise with every personal exile; he emerges individually from exile.
This is the meaning of “My name in the midst of him,” meaning the name Shadai, which is Yesod of Malchut. Conversely, the quality of Tav is regarded as Malchut of Malchut, which has the quality of NRN, where even complete righteous are punished by it. For this reason, He did not create the world under the governance of the Tav (See, The Zohar, Part One, p 26 in the Sulam [Ladder commentary on The Zohar] in Hebrew). This is the meaning of “My name in the midst of him,” that his name is as the name of his Rav [great sage/teacher], which is the name Shadai, meaning that He said to His world “Dai [enough], expand no further.”
