Rabash / Wholeness and Deficiency – 2

808. Wholeness and Deficiency – 2

In corporeality, there is no wholeness and there is always a deficiency. In spirituality, there is wholeness and there is no deficiency.

Man was created with a deficiency. That is, from the perspective of man’s substance, called “creation,” it is only that within which there is the will to receive, which is regarded as a deficiency. Since man feels that he is deficient, meaning he lacks vitality, since the desire to do good caused a deficiency in the lower one, meaning to always yearn to receive pleasure and vitality, but when he can receive pleasure only from corporeal clothing, there is no wholeness in it so we can say that from this he will always be able to extend vitality. Instead, as soon as his deficiency is satisfied, the flavor and vitality in the matter disappear from it.

According to the rule that the yearning gives the flavor to the pleasure, where there is no yearning for something, that something does not give all the pleasure in it, and the matter gives him pleasure only according to his deficiency. But where he has no deficiency, it is as though he has no Kli [vessel] in which to place that pleasure.

Hence, if man is filled with pleasure, then he has no yearning for it. Therefore, he no longer receives vitality and pleasure from this thing. But if he is not completely satisfied by the pleasure, then there is still a deficiency in him. This is considered that he still has a Kli to receive pleasure.

The deficiency that one feels about himself, that he has no pleasure, means that he has nothing from which to receive pleasure. This is like a person who is on one of the islands in the ocean where there is no food, and he must starve from hunger and thirst.

In spiritual pleasures there is wholeness, meaning that we do not feel that there is a need for higher wholeness because there cannot be any lack in spirituality. Hence, spirituality shines in a way that there is nothing to add to it.
