774. It Is Good to Thank the Creator
November 4, 1964
“A psalm, a song … it is good to thank the Lord.” We should ask why it is good to thank specifically on Shabbat [Sabbath]. On the six workdays, it is the place of work, and then the prayer is relevant. But on Shabbat, which is regarded as Shvita [resting/cessation], when he rests from the work of the inclination, the work is in the manner of “It is good to thank the Lord.”
Hence, one who is a wise disciple and feels rest from the inclination in the middle of the week, it is also “good to thank.” This is the meaning of “A wise disciple is regarded as Shabbat.”
