705. Impudence
“Impudence, even toward the heaven, it is enjoyable” (Sanhedrin 105a).
Commentary: When one feels that what he is praying, for the Creator to grant him his wishes, is impudence on his part, since he is not worthy of the Creator’s help, it is enjoyable (beneficial), and his prayer is answered. But when he feels that he deserves something, he is not given what he asks, for there is no person who is so virtuous that we can say that for his actions, he deserves the Creator’s help.
