683. A Wise Sees the Future
Concerning the pleasures of this world, the authors of ethics said, “Its beginning is sweet and its end, bitter.” This is as it is written, “Who is wise? He who sees the future,” meaning that its end is bitter and he has the strength to retire from them. Also, “One does not sin unless a spirit of folly has entered him.” Therefore, he does not see what will become of his end.
