671. Sorting Food and Waste

On Shabbat [Sabbath], we sort the food from the waste, meaning good things that are found in the body. On weekdays, we sort the waste from the food. We do not look at good deeds that exist in the body and for which we should thank the Creator for the deeds that the Creator awarded us with doing. Rather, we look at the waste that is in the body, and at that time we do not look at the good. Hence, there is room for prayer.

A wise disciple is in a state of Shabbat on weekdays, too. In other words, when he engages in Torah, he should look at the food from within the waste and thank the Creator for rewarding him with engaging in Torah.
