650. Criticism on Bestowal

The will to receive is self-love. The desire to bestow is love of others. The question is, Why would one want to love others? If it is because self-love, called “will to receive,” knows it will be better for it to be a giver, and therefore rejects the will to receive and takes upon itself the desire to bestow, this should be called “bestowing in order to receive.”

Thus, when one chooses love of others and revokes self-love, the question is why he does this, who causes him to take upon himself love of others? If you say that the reason is shame, then one who is ashamed, it is still self-love.
