596. Nothing New Under the Sun
“There is nothing new under the sun,” but only above the sun. “Sun” means “day” and “reason,” as our sages said, “If the matter is as clear to you as day,” and as it is written, “The murderer arises at day.” It follows that below reason, when one wants his reason to yield renewal in the work, it is written about it, “There is nothing new.” But above it, which is above the sun, there is renewal, meaning that above reason, a person can receive renewal in the work.
