549. Feeling the Lack
It is human nature that with any possession, sometimes he appreciates it even though the majority of people do not regard the possession at all. Still, he values it, meaning in a place where he wants to boast before others.
When one wants to add to his possession, then even if most people regard his possession as substantial, he still regards it as nothing and feels lacking. This is so because by nature, man yearns for rest, and only where he feels some deficiency in himself will he take upon himself the burden of labor in order to mend it.
Providence has prepared the two feelings, although they are conflicting, for several reasons: 1) A person feels vitality only from wholeness. 2) A person must praise the Creator, but only on wholeness can one praise the other, for giving him the wholeness.
Feeling the lack leads to movement, which then brings him to prayer, for there is prayer only for a deficiency.
