Rabash / Darkness Precedes Light

444. Darkness Precedes Light

“If the rav [teacher/great one] is like an angel,” etc. “Who is rich? He who is happy with his share.” “Eating materializes a man.”

Food has no taste unless it moves through the tongue and the palate. It is likewise with spiritual foods. If the Torah and Mitzvot [commandments] do not pass through faith in the Creator, they have no taste, the same as with physical food.

There is the purpose of creation and the correction of creation. Unlike eating them, there is no pleasure, which are the palate and the tongue. In Torah and Mitzvot, they are for the sake of the Creator and Lo Lishma [not for Her sake]. The night follows the day because any light lies on its unique darkness, just as every answer lies on its unique question. For this reason, there cannot be light, or day, prior to the darkness and the night.
