432. The Making of the Calf
Miron Village, June 1966
The matter of the purity of the cow comes before the month of Nissan, for in Nissan they were redeemed. The cow is regarded as faith, as RASHI interpreted, an allegory about a handmaid’s child who soiled a king’s palace. They said, “Let the mother come and wipe clean her son.”
Likewise, the cow atones for the making of the calf. The issue of the calf was that they said “these,” as it is written in The Zohar, and “cow” is regarded as a constitution, as RASHI interpreted, “It is a decree before Me, I have made a constitution.” Therefore, we need preparation for redemption, which is the matter of acceptance of faith.
