310. The Righteous Perishes and No One Notices

“The righteous perishes and no one notices … for because of the evil, the righteous perishes” (Isaiah 57). The Zohar interprets that “When the Creator looks at the world, and the world is not worthy of existing, and judgment is in the world, He takes the righteous one who lives among them.”

We can interpret that if a person should be given a descent, the righteous is taken away from him, meaning that beforehand, he loses the faith in the righteous, for otherwise he might receive strengthening from the righteous. This is the meaning of “The righteous perishes and no one notices,” for because of the evil, he lost the faith in the righteous (VaYeshev, 4,4).
