24 Hours in the Life of a Kabbalist: Rav Michael Laitman
We were in a major accident. I was the driver. It shattered my lungs and liver completely. They brought me and my sister in, and we saw him lying there, blood still clotted on his body. My sister burst into hysterical tears, and her tears fell on Dad's body lying there. That's when I understood how serious it was. I was together with Rav in the same car. I woke up in the hospital, severely injured. The friends didn't recognize my face. They told me, "Rav is also in the hospital, still unconscious. We don't know what to do. What's going to happen to us from now on? What will be next?" Around the accident, I realized the power of the group my father was building. Suddenly, I realized he wasn't just my father. The lungs were filled with blood, and I couldn't breathe, constantly choking, like you're underwater. And then I heard the doctors talking, "Well, we'll do this for him now, and then that, and then we'll see. If he lives, he lives." I'm sitting at the hospital entrance with a choked throat and tears in my eyes. This moment will never get out of my head. And constantly, the thought and feeling passed through me that after searching my whole life for the person who'll teach me the most important thing in life, and now he's going to leave? That can't be. No way. I went through a clinical death. There were visions as if you see from afar, as if you see things from the outside, all sorts of things. This is what people who go through clinical death feel a bit at the end of the road. That is, what's waiting for them there. It's all a lie. It's not similar to the spiritual state. We want to make a film about you. We want to open up a bit this curtain that is separating us from the science of Kabbalah to refute myths about it. You've been studying Kabbalah for almost 50 years. You've learned from great sages. You also have thousands of students. We think that by presenting a film with you, we'll be able to talk about the spiritual world, we will be able to give an answer to people who ask themselves, "Why was I given this life?" I understand, but this doesn't suit me. I was many years beside the great Kabbalist, the Rabash, and it wouldn't have suited him at all to engage in himself in any way. You could see that he was great, and I, according to my character, I have nothing in which to make myself great. I understand that's not what you want for the film, but that's how it is. Before I get up in the morning and wake up, this film of the lesson, what I'll convey to you, is already running inside me. Day after day, I get up and discover how hard it is for me to wake up properly for the lesson, that I want to reach it with all my strength, my mind, and heart, and I can't. Every morning, a new, otherwise it won't be a new day. And I need to wake up again and again, awaken myself and connect to the group. And the connection should be a new connection, not as it was yesterday. More difficult and more courageous. And I read and I look up all kinds of excerpts, but I feel myself that I'm dead, day after day. Once in a while, we hear from Rav that he goes through periods of lack of strength. But regardless, I can say with confidence that none of us has seen Rav in such a state. After all, we know him differently. I don't predict the future, and I don't do any supernatural things. I teach my students how slowly and small steps to reach the truth and acquire it. Our wisdom of Kabbalah is a scientific, didactic form. It's a method of how a person changes himself, and through this comes to know the upper force. And as the Kabbalists write, this can take 10 or 20 years. Only special people who have a point in the heart understand there's no other way. And others will go somewhere else to mysticism. It's important to me that ordinary people from the land of Israel, especially, will hear what I say and understand what lies ahead of them in some form. Not from me, through someone, but the main thing is that these external changes will happen to all inhabitants of the world. We're reading from the introduction to the Book of Zohar, item 14. Thus, you necessarily find that on the whole, there are three states to the soul. The science that we now want to reveal is how much the connection or distance between us affects all of nature, the still, vegetative, animate, and even on the relationships between people. We will see this with our own eyes, that we are moving closer between us, and suddenly all the viruses disappear, the hurricanes, the cold and heat waves, all the problems, everything. We move a little closer between us, and suddenly all kinds of bad forces calm down in all kinds of places and countries. This is really a very interesting science, how much the phenomena within us, when we quiet them, we move closer upon the hatred, so there will be love. We don't destroy the hatred, the natural forces of minus and plus, the opposition between them remains. Only we know how to work with both of them together to give the Creator room to govern. And this is called, "He who makes peace in his heavens will make peace upon us," the complementation between minus and plus. How do you receive the information that you give in a lesson? Can you explain how you feel about it? It's like a scientist who feels the phenomena from the world, or who looks at the sky if he engages in astronomy, or into planet Earth if he engages in geology. But this is his profession, so he sees before everyone and more than everyone. It's the same with me. My laboratory is humanity. When I look at what happens in humanity and after what transpires, then I understand from this that it is at a lower degree than it should be already. We need to hurry with our correction. During the time of that state, no correction will come to the bodies, only to the souls. Introduction to the Book of Zohar. The will to bestow Bina mingles with Malkut. It enters the will to receive, and then by this, the will to receive begins to be even more cruel. Evil in the world, that all those scoundrels who attack us and through supposedly good, beautiful deeds pull from us everything possible. They manage us, confuse us, all the governments, all those managers. Phase two and phase four were mingled together and caused the second restriction, preface to the wisdom of Kabbalah. It turns out we are reaching a state that those same things that should be for the correction, they work for the corruption, for the corrupted Bina, and this is called, "He has swallowed up riches and he will vomit it up." Questions, "Rav, can we now, in this lesson, reach the end of correction?" At every moment, not just this lesson. How should we approach the public? Why is the corporal people of Israel punished for not keeping the mutual guarantee? What is the work in the mind and heart? Do you see that we're progressing and doing it correctly? What is the benefit from the destruction of the temple? How not to deviate from this path? How can we connect these separate souls into one soul? What should we be careful of so we don't cause harm to the public? We lack fire. Whenever I feel between the highs and the lows, I call on my friends to show me the way to rise from below. En la elevación sentiré ya la luz. Mis amigos vendrán junto a mí y subirán por encima del yo. Each step that we take, each wall that we break, we're rising high above ourselves towards the light that never ends. We will rise above ourselves. Each step that we take. Michael Eitman was born in 1946 in Vitebsk, a family of Holocaust survivors. His parents were doctors, and in his childhood, he was interested in music and photography. In 1964, he was accepted to the Electrotechnical Institute in Leningrad and has a degree in computer science. He studied biology and medical cybernetics. During his studies, he was a sound technician in the music group Nomads. After finishing his studies in the institute, he worked in the Kronstadt laboratory of the Academy of Military Medicine on space medicine. In 1974, after prolonged opposition from the Soviet authorities, he immigrated to Israel. He worked in the IDF, he has a personal business, his family expanded in Israel, and he is a father of three children. We don't know when Michael Eitman began searching for his spiritual teacher, but we know he found him in 1979. This is Rav Baruch Shalom Halevi Ashlag, son of the great Kabbalist, Rav Yehuda Ashlag, Baal HaSulam. Michael was his faithful servant and continues the path of Rav Baruch. In 1997, he founded Bnei Baruch Kabbalah for the People Association, named after his teacher. He has a PhD. There are several million people on the planet who call him their teacher. Dad. Yes. So many fears and concerns, especially when I think about him. What will be? It'll be fine. He'll grow up and take his place. There's a lot of uncertainty. Yes. Where is the world going? The world is certainly going in a bad direction. We can see everything according to the types of egos that are revealed. Why specifically our corrupted form in the relationship between us is revealed in this or that form of diseases and revolutions and wars and so on. According to what's being revealed now, I don't even want to talk much about it, but we are facing several blows of plagues. Rav, you've predicted the future many times and quite accurately. Can you explain how that happens? How does this mechanism work? Maybe through this chart as an example. And this chart, where does it appear? This chart? Yeah. I feel it before me. It appears in all of humanity in the world. Natural disasters, cold, heat, plagues, wars. This is what I feel. Can you say from where you know this? Well, how can I explain it? What do I see? I see a process that is happening all over the world, and from that I speak. The upper force is approaching us according to its own time, and we are not compatible with it. And according to the gap between us and the upper force, which is entirely a force of bestowal, and we are a force of reception, so its nearing to us should bring us all kinds of disasters. Time passes, and humanity does nothing to adapt itself to the flow of time. Gilad, you served some time in the Navy. Yeah, I served as an electronics officer on a missile ship. Did you ever fight? Yes, I participated in the First Lebanon War. Then it was called Operation Peace for the Galilee. I remember there was some artillery battle opposite the shores of Beirut that fired at us. We fired at them, and it was like a Wild West duel. Who will hit first? And you see the shells hitting the water 300 meters from you, and then 200 meters from you, and 100 meters from you, at 50 meters from you, and it's clear to you that the next shell will fall on the ship. And that thought passed through me. You're too young. What have you accomplished? You haven't done anything. You must win here. This was one of the formative events that brought me to think, what am I living for? And to search out the answer to the question. Hello, we're in the Raiders meeting with Rav Dr. Michael Eitman. Hello, Rav. Hello, everyone. We're about a week before the 9th of Av. What is this strong and special force operating on us these days? A negative force, a force of separation, distancing, hatred. What is our connection, today's Jews to the Jews back then, 2000 years ago? We are the same people, the same character. The separation between us is always present. By this, we raise hatred in all the nations surrounding us and give them the power to break us. What can we do now to prevent the next blows? We need to make a correction that is placed upon us and depends only on us. And this is why all humanity depends upon us, and subconsciously it feels this dependence, and we don't want to recognize this dependence. They come to us and pressure and say, "Enough, this is what we want, not territories, not peace, and not all kinds of things, and not success in all kinds of situations. We want nothing from you except one thing, the method for correcting the world, because the world is deteriorating to a state of complete chaos." But what in the nature of the Jews causes them to return again and again to the same ruin? What don't we learn from the past? This is called a stiff-neck people. What would you do if you had such a stubborn son who doesn't want to do this? This is the Creator's problem. Okay, and how does he solve his problems? He puts more and more pressure every year, more and more, until we recognize our obligation. How is it the nations of the world understand this message better than us? They don't have the same ego as we do. They're not connected to the Creator directly. They're not stiff-necked like us. Rav wrote the first books and articles himself, but today, with the amount of media coming out from the walls of this building, it's impossible. In these Raiders meetings, Rav exposes the causes, the spiritual roots of everything that occurs in Israel and the world. And we? We type on the keyboard and transmit his messages to the world. So who's to blame? I am the reason that this is happening to them, and I need to be the reason that they truly connect and speak to be as one man with one heart. We will then build a connection between us, specifically above all the hatred, a connection of love. And this will be the true third temple, as the Creator says. My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. One more question. You're a Kabbalist. You're in the spiritual worlds. Why do you feel the need to deal with the matters of our world with all of these changing events? I remember the Rabash when there was the Lebanon War, and some Hesed came to see Rav running to the radio to turn on the radio. So he asked him what happened. So I tell him it's news. He wants to hear the news, what's happening there in Lebanon. אז the Rabash comes back and then he says to him, "What is the news? What is it? Does this suit us, faithful Jews? What's news?" Rabash says, "Do you have children there?" It's true. It was really very moving. Rav Baruch Ashlag, the Rabash, was born in the Jewish district of Warsaw in 1907. He was the first child in his family of the prominent Kabbalist, Yehuda Halevi Ashlag. He remained forever his good student and devoted successor. In 1921, the Rabash moved with his parents to the land of Israel and entered the Jerusalem, Torah Temit Yeshiva. There he studied Torah and Kabbalah for 16 hours a day. He got married in 1925. Six children were born from this marriage. All the years he continued studying Kabbalah under his father's guidance and simultaneously worked as a construction worker, later as a reinforcement worker, including on the Jerusalem Hebron Road, and also as a shoemaker. In addition, he served as an income tax inspector. The Rabash dedicated his life to explaining and spreading methods for studying Kabbalah in a way accessible for the understanding and study by a modern generation. The Rabash passed away in 1991 and was buried on Hal Haminchut next to his father in Jerusalem. It's hard without the Rabash. It's a wall. It's life without questions. We know that at this hour, usually you work alone behind a closed door, and we don't know what you do there. I remember once I mustered the courage and asked you about this. You told me, "This is the work of a Kabbalist." And now we want to ask, who is a Kabbalist? A Kabbalist is a person connected with the Creator and dedicating all his life to how to advance towards this. Is it possible to express in words what a Kabbalist feels? I see the upper force that operates within humanity, and therefore I have my own view, my own opinion from this. Rav Amos never talks about his spiritual achievements. He apparently wants us to rise to these stages by ourselves. In addition, we learn that it's hard to convey in our words impressions from the upper world, a rich, diverse world. But there's a short and very special segment in our archive. When did you feel the light for the first time? This I can say because many of my students have already gone through this, and it's possible. A person feels the light for the first time when he begins studying Kabbalah, and suddenly, truly suddenly, some revelation comes to him that he feels that he's in a sea or in a cloud, I don't know, in something dense like that, of warmth and love that shines on him from all sides. And it's as if this world doesn't exist. The world does exist and everything, but besides that, he feels how the air is filled with a good demeanor, beautiful, breathing. And this feeling is usually the first meeting of a person with the light. How can we know that a Kabbalist is real? Is there proof of this? We can't judge Kabbalists by their writings, by their attitude, by their behavior, by nothing. Nothing in this is understood, and each and every one can hide himself so no one will see him. Wait, how does it reconcile with the fact that there is a Kabbalist like you who has millions of students around the world? If he feels in his connection with the Creator that he must perform some work and that he's in a period, let's say like ours, that he must perform work with humanity and all kinds of other such works, spiritual or corporeal, then he performs it. During the war with Iraq with Saddam Hussein, suddenly I read in the newspaper that this Michael Leitman had written a book about Kabbalah. The next day I went to the store and I bought this book. At the end of this book, it was written that anyone who read the entire book has an invitation and a phone number. I called and he asked me, "Did you read to the end?" I said, "Yes." "Really?" he said. "And did you understand everything you read?" I said, "No, no, no, no, no. I have many questions." He said, "Come, come, let's talk." I came to him and I've been with him for 33 years. We started studying in Michael Leitman's apartment, and with time, more and more people came until there was no more room in his living room. We found some small hut on Rain Street. It was a huge place for us. And there were morning lessons there, holidays. It was an unforgettable time. And then the group grew again. We felt crowded in our old and pleasant building, so we rented an industrial building, renovated it, created our own television station, and thousands of people all over the world listened with bated breath to the morning lesson. And again we felt crowded. 3,000 people, all at once, each decided to put in as much as he could, and we bought the building. We built these walls with our own hands. There's a study hall here, study rooms, a studio, even a small hall and a larger one. That is, everything is here to be a supportive environment for every person who wants spiritual development. And the well of life, the initiating leading force, is Rav Leitman. It's the Kabbalist. I've traveled enough to the US and South America and Russia and Europe and all kinds of places and gave lectures and everything. I see myself as working with whoever wants to listen. But with publicity, that's not me. I've been abroad with Rav dozens of times, both at conferences and on private trips. And what characterizes him is that he really settles for little. He never agreed to fly business class. At the airport, when the suitcases arrive, he's the first to jump in and bring everyone their suitcase. He certainly doesn't let anyone carry his suitcase. If I were alone without students, no one would have heard of me. This is how every Kabbalist would do, I'm sure. What do I get from this? I don't receive importance from this. I don't need from them neither money nor honor nor anything. Do you work alone or does somebody help you? We're not talking, of course, about technical work, but spiritual work. I work alone towards the Creator. There are other people, but not beside me, outside, according to methods close to Baal HaSulam, but different. In the history of Kabbalah, there are thousands of names that are known to us and thousands of names unknown. But only a few of them are connected to the central changes and the system of understanding the upper world. One of them is Yehuda Leib Halevi Ashlag, known to us as Baal HaSulam. He was born in 1884 in Lukov, 100 kilometers from Warsaw, the capital of the Kingdom of Poland. From a young age, he amazed his instructors with his brilliant knowledge of all the foundational books of Judaism. He also became a student of the prominent Kabbalists of his time, the Admor of Kalisz and the Admor of Persov. Furthermore, he was interested in the works of renowned Western philosophers. Later on, he would compare their views to the view of the science of Kabbalah and his articles. Since he foresaw the approaching Holocaust, Baal HaSulam and his family moved to Israel. This was in the autumn of 1921 during Holomohed Sukkot. In Jerusalem, Baal HaSulam was disappointed. The local Jews welcomed him with open hostility. His idea to spread Kabbalah to the masses was not understood by them. Moreover, they rejected the wisdom of Kabbalah. Thus, despite persecution, Baal HaSulam gathered a group of faithful students in the next 30 years and created a technique that humanity had not known, a scientific translation of an ancient wisdom adapted to modern generations. He wrote commentaries to all the classical Kabbalah books, including the Tree of Life by the Ari and the Book of Zohar by Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. They were translated into many languages. Baal HaSulam passed away in 1954 and left his group in teaching methods in the hands of the best of his students and his firstborn son, Baruch Shalom Ashlag, known as the Rabash. I drove into the Nebrak. It was rainy and dark. An ultra-Orthodox religious man stood at a street corner of Rabbi Akiva and Kassonish, and I opened the window a bit like this and asked him, "Where do they study Kabbalah here?" "You understand, this is asking Benei Barak like that." And he says, "You turn right and drive to the end, last house on the left, opposite the orchard. There they study Kabbalah." When I told this to the Rabash, he said, "That was an angel." When I arrived at the Rabash, I saw a table, and at the table sat five old men. After a day or two that I was there, this environment became for me from five old men to the most important in the entire world. They were really great. Your teacher, the Rabash, did he know your future? Otherwise, he wouldn't have engaged with me all the time. After all, it was 12 years, day by day, many hours a day. Did he immediately see the spark in you? He saw it. He saw it. Rav Dr. Michael Leitman studied with Rav Baruch Shalom Halevi Ashlag, the Rabash. The Rabash was the student and son of Rav Yehuda Leib Halevi Ashlag, known by his nickname, Baal HaSulam. Baal HaSulam was the student of Rav Yehoshua Rabinovich of Persov. In this way, like fresh water, the chain of Kabbalists flowed from generation to generation until it reached the founder of Hasidism, the Baal Shem Tov. What does it feel like to bestow? You have 7 billion people in the world. Put together all their pleasures. Let's say this is a spark compared to the light you attain in the highest spiritual degree. These are the nations of the world who want to wash Israel away, to remove them from the world. And Israel do not break, but rather the waves break and cannot wash over the world. I can't imagine living abroad. There's no other place except here. If we bring warmth, reciprocity between us above all the differences, we will create a new reality. And all that the Creator does to Israel when he delivers them, bit by bit and not all at once. It is like a person who is in the dark and has always been in the dark. When you want to give him light, you first need to open a small light for him, like the eye of a needle, and then a little bigger and likewise more each time until all the light properly shines for him. We don't yearn to reveal the spiritual world. The truth is, there's nothing to reveal. There's nothing to reveal because it doesn't exist. We need to build it from our relations, from our corrected qualities.
00:18
We were in a major accident.
00:20
I was the driver. It shattered
00:24
my lungs and liver completely. They
00:27
brought me and my sister in,
00:29
and we saw him lying there,
00:32
blood still clotted on his body.
00:36
My sister burst into hysterical tears,
00:38
and her tears fell on Dad's
00:43
body lying there. That's when I
00:46
understood how serious it was. I
00:48
was together with Rav in the
00:50
same car. I woke up in
00:51
the hospital, severely injured. The friends
00:55
didn't recognize my face. They told
00:58
me, "Rav is also in the
01:00
hospital, still unconscious. We don't know
01:04
what to do. What's going to
01:07
happen to us from now on?
01:09
What will be next?" Around the
01:11
accident, I realized the power of
01:13
the group my father was building.
01:16
Suddenly, I realized he wasn't just
01:18
my father. The lungs were filled
01:22
with blood, and I couldn't breathe,
01:25
constantly choking, like you're underwater. And
01:30
then I heard the doctors talking,
01:32
"Well, we'll do this for him
01:33
now, and then that, and then
01:35
we'll see. If he lives, he
01:38
lives." I'm sitting at the hospital
01:41
entrance with a choked throat and
01:44
tears in my eyes. This moment
01:47
will never get out of my
01:48
head. And constantly, the thought and
01:52
feeling passed through me that after
01:55
searching my whole life for the
01:57
person who'll teach me the most
01:59
important thing in life, and now
02:01
he's going to leave? That can't
02:04
be. No way. I went through
02:08
a clinical death. There were visions
02:12
as if you see from afar,
02:13
as if you see things from
02:14
the outside, all sorts of things.
02:17
This is what people who go
02:18
through clinical death feel a bit
02:21
at the end of the road.
02:22
That is, what's waiting for them
02:24
there. It's all a lie. It's
02:26
not similar to the spiritual state.
02:30
We want to make a film
02:31
about you. We want to open
02:32
up a bit this curtain that
02:34
is separating us from the science
02:36
of Kabbalah to refute myths about
02:38
it. You've been studying Kabbalah for
02:41
almost 50 years. You've learned from
02:43
great sages. You also have thousands
02:45
of students. We think that by
02:47
presenting a film with you, we'll
02:49
be able to talk about the
02:51
spiritual world, we will be able
02:52
to give an answer to people
02:54
who ask themselves, "Why was I
02:56
given this life?" I understand, but
02:59
this doesn't suit me. I was
03:05
many years beside the great Kabbalist,
03:08
the Rabash, and it wouldn't have
03:11
suited him at all to engage
03:13
in himself in any way. You
03:16
could see that he was great,
03:18
and I, according to my character,
03:20
I have nothing in which to
03:22
make myself great. I understand that's
03:26
not what you want for the
03:27
film, but that's how it is.
04:05
Before I get up in the
04:06
morning and wake up, this film
04:09
of the lesson, what I'll convey
04:11
to you, is already running inside
04:14
me. Day after day, I get
04:32
up and discover how hard it
04:34
is for me to wake up
04:36
properly for the lesson, that I
04:39
want to reach it with all
04:40
my strength, my mind, and heart,
04:47
and I can't. Every morning, a
04:56
new, otherwise it won't be a
04:58
new day. And I need to
05:00
wake up again and again, awaken
05:03
myself and connect to the group.
05:07
And the connection should be a
05:09
new connection, not as it was
05:11
yesterday. More difficult and more courageous.
05:17
And I read and I look
05:19
up all kinds of excerpts, but
05:22
I feel myself that I'm dead,
05:25
day after day. Once in a
05:29
while, we hear from Rav that
05:31
he goes through periods of lack
05:32
of strength. But regardless, I can
05:35
say with confidence that none of
05:37
us has seen Rav in such
05:39
a state. After all, we know
05:41
him differently. I don't predict the
05:49
future, and I don't do any
05:51
supernatural things. I teach my students
05:55
how slowly and small steps to
05:57
reach the truth and acquire it.
06:03
Our wisdom of Kabbalah is a
06:05
scientific, didactic form. It's a method
06:09
of how a person changes himself,
06:12
and through this comes to know
06:14
the upper force. And as the
06:17
Kabbalists write, this can take 10
06:20
or 20 years. Only special people
06:23
who have a point in the
06:24
heart understand there's no other way.
06:28
And others will go somewhere else
06:30
to mysticism. It's important to me
06:40
that ordinary people from the land
06:43
of Israel, especially, will hear what
06:46
I say and understand what lies
06:49
ahead of them in some form.
06:51
Not from me, through someone, but
06:54
the main thing is that these
06:56
external changes will happen to all
06:59
inhabitants of the world. We're reading
08:01
from the introduction to the Book
08:03
of Zohar, item 14. Thus, you
08:06
necessarily find that on the whole,
08:09
there are three states to the
08:10
soul. The science that we now
08:14
want to reveal is how much
08:17
the connection or distance between us
08:21
affects all of nature, the still,
08:25
vegetative, animate, and even on the
08:29
relationships between people. We will see
08:33
this with our own eyes, that
08:34
we are moving closer between us,
08:37
and suddenly all the viruses disappear,
08:41
the hurricanes, the cold and heat
08:44
waves, all the problems, everything. We
08:48
move a little closer between us,
08:50
and suddenly all kinds of bad
08:53
forces calm down in all kinds
08:55
of places and countries. This is
08:59
really a very interesting science, how
09:03
much the phenomena within us, when
09:06
we quiet them, we move closer
09:10
upon the hatred, so there will
09:12
be love. We don't destroy the
09:15
hatred, the natural forces of minus
09:17
and plus, the opposition between them
09:20
remains. Only we know how to
09:22
work with both of them together
09:24
to give the Creator room to
09:26
govern. And this is called, "He
09:30
who makes peace in his heavens
09:32
will make peace upon us," the
09:35
complementation between minus and plus. How
09:51
do you receive the information that
09:53
you give in a lesson? Can
09:55
you explain how you feel about
09:57
it? It's like a scientist who
10:00
feels the phenomena from the world,
10:03
or who looks at the sky
10:04
if he engages in astronomy, or
10:07
into planet Earth if he engages
10:09
in geology. But this is his
10:12
profession, so he sees before everyone
10:15
and more than everyone. It's the
10:17
same with me. My laboratory is
10:20
humanity. When I look at what
10:22
happens in humanity and after what
10:25
transpires, then I understand from this
10:29
that it is at a lower
10:31
degree than it should be already.
10:33
We need to hurry with our
10:34
correction. During the time of that
10:39
state, no correction will come to
10:41
the bodies, only to the souls.
10:44
Introduction to the Book of Zohar.
10:48
The will to bestow Bina mingles
10:50
with Malkut. It enters the will
10:53
to receive, and then by this,
10:55
the will to receive begins to
10:58
be even more cruel. Evil in
11:02
the world, that all those scoundrels
11:05
who attack us and through supposedly
11:09
good, beautiful deeds pull from us
11:13
everything possible. They manage us, confuse
11:18
us, all the governments, all those
11:22
managers. Phase two and phase four
11:26
were mingled together and caused the
11:28
second restriction, preface to the wisdom
11:31
of Kabbalah. It turns out we
11:36
are reaching a state that those
11:38
same things that should be for
11:41
the correction, they work for the
11:44
corruption, for the corrupted Bina, and
11:48
this is called, "He has swallowed
11:51
up riches and he will vomit
11:52
it up." Questions, "Rav, can we
11:55
now, in this lesson, reach the
11:57
end of correction?" At every moment,
12:00
not just this lesson. How should
12:02
we approach the public? Why is
12:07
the corporal people of Israel punished
12:09
for not keeping the mutual guarantee?
12:11
What is the work in the
12:13
mind and heart? Do you see
12:15
that we're progressing and doing it
12:17
correctly? What is the benefit from
12:21
the destruction of the temple? How
12:24
not to deviate from this path?
12:27
How can we connect these separate
12:29
souls into one soul? What should
12:31
we be careful of so we
12:33
don't cause harm to the public?
12:35
We lack fire. Whenever I feel
12:46
between the highs and the lows,
12:50
I call on my friends to
12:52
show me the way to rise
12:54
from below. En la elevación sentiré
13:02
ya la luz. Mis amigos vendrán
13:06
junto a mí y subirán por
13:09
encima del yo. Each step that
13:15
we take, each wall that we
13:17
break, we're rising high above ourselves
13:21
towards the light that never ends.
13:25
We will rise above ourselves. Each
13:28
step that we take. Michael Eitman
14:22
was born in 1946 in Vitebsk,
14:26
a family of Holocaust survivors. His
14:28
parents were doctors, and in his
14:30
childhood, he was interested in music
14:32
and photography. In 1964, he was
14:35
accepted to the Electrotechnical Institute in
14:38
Leningrad and has a degree in
14:40
computer science. He studied biology and
14:43
medical cybernetics. During his studies, he
14:46
was a sound technician in the
14:47
music group Nomads. After finishing his
14:50
studies in the institute, he worked
14:52
in the Kronstadt laboratory of the
14:55
Academy of Military Medicine on space
14:58
medicine. In 1974, after prolonged opposition
15:02
from the Soviet authorities, he immigrated
15:05
to Israel. He worked in the
15:07
IDF, he has a personal business,
15:09
his family expanded in Israel, and
15:12
he is a father of three
15:13
children. We don't know when Michael
15:15
Eitman began searching for his spiritual
15:18
teacher, but we know he found
15:20
him in 1979. This is Rav
15:24
Baruch Shalom Halevi Ashlag, son of
15:27
the great Kabbalist, Rav Yehuda Ashlag,
15:31
Baal HaSulam. Michael was his faithful
15:35
servant and continues the path of
15:37
Rav Baruch. In 1997, he founded
15:41
Bnei Baruch Kabbalah for the People
15:44
Association, named after his teacher. He
15:47
has a PhD. There are several
15:49
million people on the planet who
15:51
call him their teacher. Dad. Yes.
16:00
So many fears and concerns, especially
16:04
when I think about him. What
16:08
will be? It'll be fine. He'll
16:12
grow up and take his place.
16:17
There's a lot of uncertainty. Yes.
16:20
Where is the world going? The
16:22
world is certainly going in a
16:24
bad direction. We can see everything
16:28
according to the types of egos
16:29
that are revealed. Why specifically our
16:33
corrupted form in the relationship between
16:36
us is revealed in this or
16:40
that form of diseases and revolutions
16:43
and wars and so on. According
16:47
to what's being revealed now, I
16:50
don't even want to talk much
16:51
about it, but we are facing
16:54
several blows of plagues. Rav, you've
17:00
predicted the future many times and
17:01
quite accurately. Can you explain how
17:03
that happens? How does this mechanism
17:06
work? Maybe through this chart as
17:08
an example. And this chart, where
17:11
does it appear? This chart? Yeah.
17:13
I feel it before me. It
17:15
appears in all of humanity in
17:17
the world. Natural disasters, cold, heat,
17:21
plagues, wars. This is what I
17:23
feel. Can you say from where
17:26
you know this? Well, how can
17:29
I explain it? What do I
17:31
see? I see a process that
17:35
is happening all over the world,
17:37
and from that I speak. The
17:40
upper force is approaching us according
17:44
to its own time, and we
17:47
are not compatible with it. And
17:50
according to the gap between us
17:53
and the upper force, which is
17:56
entirely a force of bestowal, and
17:59
we are a force of reception,
18:04
so its nearing to us should
18:06
bring us all kinds of disasters.
18:11
Time passes, and humanity does nothing
18:14
to adapt itself to the flow
18:17
of time. Gilad, you served some
18:33
time in the Navy. Yeah, I
18:35
served as an electronics officer on
18:37
a missile ship. Did you ever
18:39
fight? Yes, I participated in the
18:41
First Lebanon War. Then it was
18:43
called Operation Peace for the Galilee.
18:46
I remember there was some artillery
18:48
battle opposite the shores of Beirut
18:50
that fired at us. We fired
18:52
at them, and it was like
18:54
a Wild West duel. Who will
18:56
hit first? And you see the
18:58
shells hitting the water 300 meters
19:00
from you, and then 200 meters
19:01
from you, and 100 meters from
19:03
you, at 50 meters from you,
19:04
and it's clear to you that
19:06
the next shell will fall on
19:08
the ship. And that thought passed
19:09
through me. You're too young. What
19:11
have you accomplished? You haven't done
19:13
anything. You must win here. This
19:16
was one of the formative events
19:18
that brought me to think, what
19:19
am I living for? And to
19:20
search out the answer to the
19:22
question. Hello, we're in the Raiders
19:32
meeting with Rav Dr. Michael Eitman.
19:34
Hello, Rav. Hello, everyone. We're about
19:37
a week before the 9th of
19:39
Av. What is this strong and
19:41
special force operating on us these
19:43
days? A negative force, a force
19:46
of separation, distancing, hatred. What is
19:49
our connection, today's Jews to the
19:51
Jews back then, 2000 years ago?
19:55
We are the same people, the
19:58
same character. The separation between us
20:02
is always present. By this, we
20:06
raise hatred in all the nations
20:09
surrounding us and give them the
20:11
power to break us. What can
20:14
we do now to prevent the
20:16
next blows? We need to make
20:20
a correction that is placed upon
20:22
us and depends only on us.
20:26
And this is why all humanity
20:28
depends upon us, and subconsciously it
20:31
feels this dependence, and we don't
20:33
want to recognize this dependence. They
20:36
come to us and pressure and
20:37
say, "Enough, this is what we
20:39
want, not territories, not peace, and
20:42
not all kinds of things, and
20:43
not success in all kinds of
20:45
situations. We want nothing from you
20:48
except one thing, the method for
20:51
correcting the world, because the world
20:53
is deteriorating to a state of
20:55
complete chaos." But what in the
20:58
nature of the Jews causes them
21:00
to return again and again to
21:01
the same ruin? What don't we
21:02
learn from the past? This is
21:04
called a stiff-neck people. What would
21:07
you do if you had such
21:08
a stubborn son who doesn't want
21:10
to do this? This is the
21:12
Creator's problem. Okay, and how does
21:16
he solve his problems? He puts
21:19
more and more pressure every year,
21:22
more and more, until we recognize
21:24
our obligation. How is it the
21:27
nations of the world understand this
21:29
message better than us? They don't
21:31
have the same ego as we
21:33
do. They're not connected to the
21:36
Creator directly. They're not stiff-necked like
21:40
us. Rav wrote the first books
21:45
and articles himself, but today, with
21:48
the amount of media coming out
21:51
from the walls of this building,
21:53
it's impossible. In these Raiders meetings,
21:56
Rav exposes the causes, the spiritual
21:59
roots of everything that occurs in
22:01
Israel and the world. And we?
22:04
We type on the keyboard and
22:06
transmit his messages to the world.
22:09
So who's to blame? I am
22:12
the reason that this is happening
22:14
to them, and I need to
22:15
be the reason that they truly
22:18
connect and speak to be as
22:21
one man with one heart. We
22:24
will then build a connection between
22:27
us, specifically above all the hatred,
22:30
a connection of love. And this
22:33
will be the true third temple,
22:36
as the Creator says. My house
22:39
shall be called a house of
22:41
prayer for all peoples. One more
22:48
question. You're a Kabbalist. You're in
22:51
the spiritual worlds. Why do you
22:54
feel the need to deal with
22:55
the matters of our world with
22:56
all of these changing events? I
23:00
remember the Rabash when there was
23:04
the Lebanon War, and some Hesed
23:10
came to see Rav running to
23:12
the radio to turn on the
23:15
radio. So he asked him what
23:17
happened. So I tell him it's
23:21
news. He wants to hear the
23:22
news, what's happening there in Lebanon.
23:25
אז the Rabash comes back and
23:33
then he says to him, "What
23:36
is the news? What is it?
23:38
Does this suit us, faithful Jews?
23:41
What's news?" Rabash says, "Do you
23:44
have children there?" It's true. It
23:50
was really very moving. Rav Baruch
23:57
Ashlag, the Rabash, was born in
23:59
the Jewish district of Warsaw in
24:02
1907. He was the first child
24:04
in his family of the prominent
24:06
Kabbalist, Yehuda Halevi Ashlag. He remained
24:09
forever his good student and devoted
24:12
successor. In 1921, the Rabash moved
24:15
with his parents to the land
24:16
of Israel and entered the Jerusalem,
24:19
Torah Temit Yeshiva. There he studied
24:22
Torah and Kabbalah for 16 hours
24:25
a day. He got married in
24:26
1925. Six children were born from
24:30
this marriage. All the years he
24:32
continued studying Kabbalah under his father's
24:35
guidance and simultaneously worked as a
24:37
construction worker, later as a reinforcement
24:40
worker, including on the Jerusalem Hebron
24:43
Road, and also as a shoemaker.
24:46
In addition, he served as an
24:48
income tax inspector. The Rabash dedicated
24:51
his life to explaining and spreading
24:53
methods for studying Kabbalah in a
24:55
way accessible for the understanding and
24:58
study by a modern generation. The
25:01
Rabash passed away in 1991 and
25:04
was buried on Hal Haminchut next
25:06
to his father in Jerusalem. It's
25:25
hard without the Rabash. It's a
25:32
wall. It's life without questions. We
27:05
know that at this hour, usually
27:07
you work alone behind a closed
27:09
door, and we don't know what
27:12
you do there. I remember once
27:15
I mustered the courage and asked
27:16
you about this. You told me,
27:18
"This is the work of a
27:19
Kabbalist." And now we want to
27:22
ask, who is a Kabbalist? A
27:25
Kabbalist is a person connected with
27:29
the Creator and dedicating all his
27:32
life to how to advance towards
27:36
this. Is it possible to express
27:51
in words what a Kabbalist feels?
27:54
I see the upper force that
27:55
operates within humanity, and therefore I
27:57
have my own view, my own
27:59
opinion from this. Rav Amos never
28:02
talks about his spiritual achievements. He
28:05
apparently wants us to rise to
28:07
these stages by ourselves. In addition,
28:09
we learn that it's hard to
28:11
convey in our words impressions from
28:13
the upper world, a rich, diverse
28:15
world. But there's a short and
28:19
very special segment in our archive.
28:23
When did you feel the light
28:25
for the first time? This I
28:28
can say because many of my
28:30
students have already gone through this,
28:33
and it's possible. A person feels
28:36
the light for the first time
28:38
when he begins studying Kabbalah, and
28:42
suddenly, truly suddenly, some revelation comes
28:47
to him that he feels that
28:50
he's in a sea or in
28:52
a cloud, I don't know, in
28:54
something dense like that, of warmth
28:58
and love that shines on him
29:00
from all sides. And it's as
29:03
if this world doesn't exist. The
29:06
world does exist and everything, but
29:09
besides that, he feels how the
29:11
air is filled with a good
29:14
demeanor, beautiful, breathing. And this feeling
29:20
is usually the first meeting of
29:23
a person with the light. How
29:27
can we know that a Kabbalist
29:28
is real? Is there proof of
29:30
this? We can't judge Kabbalists by
29:34
their writings, by their attitude, by
29:37
their behavior, by nothing. Nothing in
29:41
this is understood, and each and
29:42
every one can hide himself so
29:45
no one will see him. Wait,
29:47
how does it reconcile with the
29:48
fact that there is a Kabbalist
29:49
like you who has millions of
29:51
students around the world? If he
29:54
feels in his connection with the
29:56
Creator that he must perform some
29:59
work and that he's in a
30:01
period, let's say like ours, that
30:03
he must perform work with humanity
30:07
and all kinds of other such
30:09
works, spiritual or corporeal, then he
30:13
performs it. During the war with
30:25
Iraq with Saddam Hussein, suddenly I
30:27
read in the newspaper that this
30:29
Michael Leitman had written a book
30:31
about Kabbalah. The next day I
30:34
went to the store and I
30:35
bought this book. At the end
30:37
of this book, it was written
30:39
that anyone who read the entire
30:41
book has an invitation and a
30:43
phone number. I called and he
30:47
asked me, "Did you read to
30:49
the end?" I said, "Yes." "Really?"
30:51
he said. "And did you understand
30:53
everything you read?" I said, "No,
30:55
no, no, no, no. I have
30:58
many questions." He said, "Come, come,
31:01
let's talk." I came to him
31:16
and I've been with him for
31:19
33 years. We started studying in
31:27
Michael Leitman's apartment, and with time,
31:33
more and more people came until
31:35
there was no more room in
31:37
his living room. We found some
31:56
small hut on Rain Street. It
31:59
was a huge place for us.
32:04
And there were morning lessons there,
32:07
holidays. It was an unforgettable time.
32:20
And then the group grew again.
32:22
We felt crowded in our old
32:24
and pleasant building, so we rented
32:25
an industrial building, renovated it, created
32:28
our own television station, and thousands
32:31
of people all over the world
32:32
listened with bated breath to the
32:34
morning lesson. And again we felt
32:36
crowded. 3,000 people, all at once,
32:40
each decided to put in as
32:41
much as he could, and we
32:43
bought the building. We built these
32:45
walls with our own hands. There's
32:48
a study hall here, study rooms,
32:51
a studio, even a small hall
32:54
and a larger one. That is,
32:55
everything is here to be a
32:57
supportive environment for every person who
33:00
wants spiritual development. And the well
33:04
of life, the initiating leading force,
33:06
is Rav Leitman. It's the Kabbalist.
33:25
I've traveled enough to the US
33:26
and South America and Russia and
33:29
Europe and all kinds of places
33:31
and gave lectures and everything. I
33:34
see myself as working with whoever
33:36
wants to listen. But with publicity,
33:47
that's not me. I've been abroad
33:52
with Rav dozens of times, both
33:53
at conferences and on private trips.
33:56
And what characterizes him is that
33:59
he really settles for little. He
34:01
never agreed to fly business class.
34:04
At the airport, when the suitcases
34:06
arrive, he's the first to jump
34:08
in and bring everyone their suitcase.
34:10
He certainly doesn't let anyone carry
34:12
his suitcase. If I were alone
34:18
without students, no one would have
34:19
heard of me. This is how
34:21
every Kabbalist would do, I'm sure.
34:24
What do I get from this?
34:25
I don't receive importance from this.
34:27
I don't need from them neither
34:29
money nor honor nor anything. Do
34:32
you work alone or does somebody
34:34
help you? We're not talking, of
34:36
course, about technical work, but spiritual
34:38
work. I work alone towards the
34:40
Creator. There are other people, but
34:42
not beside me, outside, according to
34:46
methods close to Baal HaSulam, but
34:48
different. In the history of Kabbalah,
34:52
there are thousands of names that
34:54
are known to us and thousands
34:55
of names unknown. But only a
34:58
few of them are connected to
34:59
the central changes and the system
35:01
of understanding the upper world. One
35:04
of them is Yehuda Leib Halevi
35:07
Ashlag, known to us as Baal
35:09
HaSulam. He was born in 1884
35:12
in Lukov, 100 kilometers from Warsaw,
35:16
the capital of the Kingdom of
35:18
Poland. From a young age, he
35:20
amazed his instructors with his brilliant
35:22
knowledge of all the foundational books
35:24
of Judaism. He also became a
35:27
student of the prominent Kabbalists of
35:29
his time, the Admor of Kalisz
35:31
and the Admor of Persov. Furthermore,
35:34
he was interested in the works
35:35
of renowned Western philosophers. Later on,
35:39
he would compare their views to
35:40
the view of the science of
35:42
Kabbalah and his articles. Since he
35:44
foresaw the approaching Holocaust, Baal HaSulam
35:48
and his family moved to Israel.
35:50
This was in the autumn of
35:52
1921 during Holomohed Sukkot. In Jerusalem,
35:57
Baal HaSulam was disappointed. The local
36:00
Jews welcomed him with open hostility.
36:03
His idea to spread Kabbalah to
36:05
the masses was not understood by
36:07
them. Moreover, they rejected the wisdom
36:10
of Kabbalah. Thus, despite persecution, Baal
36:14
HaSulam gathered a group of faithful
36:16
students in the next 30 years
36:18
and created a technique that humanity
36:21
had not known, a scientific translation
36:24
of an ancient wisdom adapted to
36:26
modern generations. He wrote commentaries to
36:29
all the classical Kabbalah books, including
36:32
the Tree of Life by the
36:34
Ari and the Book of Zohar
36:35
by Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. They
36:38
were translated into many languages. Baal
36:41
HaSulam passed away in 1954 and
36:44
left his group in teaching methods
36:46
in the hands of the best
36:47
of his students and his firstborn
36:50
son, Baruch Shalom Ashlag, known as
36:53
the Rabash. I drove into the
36:56
Nebrak. It was rainy and dark.
37:00
An ultra-Orthodox religious man stood at
37:03
a street corner of Rabbi Akiva
37:05
and Kassonish, and I opened the
37:07
window a bit like this and
37:09
asked him, "Where do they study
37:10
Kabbalah here?" "You understand, this is
37:14
asking Benei Barak like that." And
37:15
he says, "You turn right and
37:17
drive to the end, last house
37:19
on the left, opposite the orchard.
37:21
There they study Kabbalah." When I
37:24
told this to the Rabash, he
37:25
said, "That was an angel." When
37:33
I arrived at the Rabash, I
37:35
saw a table, and at the
37:37
table sat five old men. After
37:41
a day or two that I
37:42
was there, this environment became for
37:45
me from five old men to
37:47
the most important in the entire
37:50
world. They were really great. Your
38:03
teacher, the Rabash, did he know
38:04
your future? Otherwise, he wouldn't have
38:07
engaged with me all the time.
38:09
After all, it was 12 years,
38:11
day by day, many hours a
38:13
day. Did he immediately see the
38:15
spark in you? He saw it.
38:20
He saw it. Rav Dr. Michael
38:25
Leitman studied with Rav Baruch Shalom
38:28
Halevi Ashlag, the Rabash. The Rabash
38:31
was the student and son of
38:33
Rav Yehuda Leib Halevi Ashlag, known
38:36
by his nickname, Baal HaSulam. Baal
38:39
HaSulam was the student of Rav
38:41
Yehoshua Rabinovich of Persov. In this
38:44
way, like fresh water, the chain
38:47
of Kabbalists flowed from generation to
38:50
generation until it reached the founder
38:52
of Hasidism, the Baal Shem Tov.
39:31
What does it feel like to
39:32
bestow? You have 7 billion people
39:39
in the world. Put together all
39:43
their pleasures. Let's say this is
39:48
a spark compared to the light
39:52
you attain in the highest spiritual
39:54
degree. These are the nations of
40:10
the world who want to wash
40:13
Israel away, to remove them from
40:16
the world. And Israel do not
40:20
break, but rather the waves break
40:23
and cannot wash over the world.
40:35
I can't imagine living abroad. There's
40:37
no other place except here. If
40:44
we bring warmth, reciprocity between us
40:48
above all the differences, we will
40:52
create a new reality. And all
41:04
that the Creator does to Israel
41:07
when he delivers them, bit by
41:09
bit and not all at once.
41:13
It is like a person who
41:15
is in the dark and has
41:17
always been in the dark. When
41:20
you want to give him light,
41:22
you first need to open a
41:24
small light for him, like the
41:28
eye of a needle, and then
41:31
a little bigger and likewise more
41:35
each time until all the light
41:38
properly shines for him. We don't
41:47
yearn to reveal the spiritual world.
41:53
The truth is, there's nothing to
41:55
reveal. There's nothing to reveal because
42:00
it doesn't exist. We need to
42:05
build it from our relations, from
42:09
our corrected qualities.
