The Wisdom of Kabbalah & Resistance

Take a simple LED light.

If you connect it directly to a powerful battery without a resistor, what happens?

It burns out.

Not because electricity is bad, but because the current is too strong for the tiny bulb to contain.

That's why every electrical circuit includes a resistor. Its purpose is not to block the flow of electricity, but to regulate it - to create the right amount of resistance so that the light can shine safely and continuously.

Just as a resistor allows electricity to become light, the inner "screen" allows life's abundance to become something we can genuinely receive and share.

Surprisingly, one of the greatest Kabbalists of the twentieth century, Baal HaSulam, explained that the human soul operates according to the very same principle.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, the force that fills reality is called the Light - the source of life, fulfillment, wisdom, and delight. This Light constantly seeks to fill us.

The problem is not the Light.

The problem is our ability to receive it.

If we try to absorb life only through our egoistic desire - wanting everything for ourselves without limitation - we cannot truly contain that abundance. In Kabbalah, this is described as the breaking of the vessels: a state in which the desire becomes incapable of holding the immense force flowing into it.

So what is the solution?

Kabbalah introduces a remarkable concept called the Masach, or screen.

The screen functions much like the resistor in an electrical circuit.

It creates the necessary resistance - not to reject the Light, but to receive it correctly. It allows us to regulate our desires, rise above our immediate impulses, and transform reception into a conscious, balanced, and beneficial connection with the force of life.

This idea challenges the way we usually think.

In modern culture, resistance often sounds negative. We are taught to remove obstacles, eliminate discomfort, and satisfy every desire as quickly as possible.

But nature tells a different story.

Without resistance there is no movement. Without friction there is no walking. Without muscles resisting weight, there is no strength. Without a resistor, there is no lasting light.

The same is true in our inner lives.

The boundaries we encounter, the moments that require patience, self-restraint, and consideration for others, are not obstacles placed in our way. They are the very conditions that allow us to grow into vessels capable of holding greater fulfillment.

The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches that true spiritual development is not about escaping resistance - it is about using it correctly.

Just as a resistor allows electricity to become light, the inner "screen" allows life's abundance to become something we can genuinely receive and share.

So maybe the next time you switch on a light, you'll remember that the tiny resistor hidden inside the circuit is quietly demonstrating one of the deepest laws of human development:

Without the right resistance, there is a short circuit.

With the right resistance, there is light.
