The Month of Elul: An Opportunity for Spiritual Ascension
There is a question that comes up again and again: If we were created as egoists from the beginning, then why do we need to express regret, ask for forgiveness for our sins, and repent?
The answer lies in understanding what prayer actually is. Prayer is a judgment on our inner qualities, which we received from the outside. The supreme power of nature is the one that created our egoistic inclination, while we are only required to discover it and recognize its evil. And it is evil because it is the one that does not allow us to connect with others and recreate the vessel of our general soul, in which we will feel the upper world.
A person is completely determined and defined - with the qualities we're born with, where we grew up, and the education we received. So in fact, we ourselves have not sinned in any sin so far. And although it may seem to us that we had some sins in the past, in reality we have not done anything wrong, because nothing depended on us! But if we find out that the cause of all evil is our egoistic nature, and we want to correct it - we have the opportunity to do so. And this can only be done together, because a person cannot correct himself.
So I'm reaching out to anyone capable of hearing this: let's correct ourselves and feel ourselves in a completely different world!
All our repentance is actually only about recognizing one thing - how much we don't want to connect with others.
All our repentance is actually only about recognizing one thing - how much we don't want to connect with others. We begin to understand that it's possible to live well only on the condition of connection and unity, but our evil inclination prevents us from achieving this. So we ask the supreme power of nature to connect and unite us. As it is written: "He who makes peace in His high places, may He make peace for us."
The truth is that we simply don't understand how we benefit from connection and unity - as if we were offered a bag with millions of dollars as a gift, and we don't see any value in it. If the reward were revealed to us, everyone would want to connect. Everything depends only on the ratio between the expense and the reward, and it is the wisdom of Kabbalah that tells us how great the reward is.
Some will say that they know many good people, who try to treat everyone nicely - and yet life does not give them any prizes, certainly not worth millions of dollars.
And here is exactly the point: we do not know what a good connection is. That is why the wisdom of Kabbalah is called wisdom, and it requires study and research - because a person may invest enormous efforts, and completely in vain. In our world, many people try to do good, but nothing comes of it, simply because they don't know the laws of nature, and therefore are wrong. We know that without knowledge of the physical laws of nature, it's impossible to do anything good. On the contrary, we can only do harm. If we don't know the laws of gravity for example, we can fall off a roof.
The same thing happens with the soul. We must learn the laws of our inner nature, of the soul. And only then will we be able to use them correctly, and we'll easily achieve a peaceful, harmonious and wonderful life, and earn much more than a million dollars.
In the month of Elul we enter a special period - we have an opportunity to profit greatly, if only we understand that the goal is to connect and unite among ourselves. And the only thing that hinders us is our ego, the evil inclination. If we strive to free ourselves from it with the help of the wisdom of Kabbalah, it will provide us with all the necessary means for correction. Then we will achieve complete abundance and prosperity, we will discover the upper world among us, and begin to live a fairy-tale life - in a completely different world.
