Preparation for the Convention and Matan Torah

Monday Learning Community in Petach Tikvah

As we draw nearer to our upcoming convention, we are entering a crucial window of preparation. Today, we delve into the core of our spiritual work: shifting our focus from outer intellect to the Light that Reforms, understanding our true Root and Branch, and preparing our hearts for a powerful leap forward.

Here is a link to the convention site with all the materials.

Attracting the Light That Reforms

In our first clip, Rav highlights a common obstacle we all face: "We have a problem: we are unable to attribute all our progress to the Light that needs to change us - the force that brings us a new heart and a new mind."

Key Takeaways:

  1. The Illusion of External Study: We often try to grasp spiritual texts using our current earthly mind and emotions, manipulating the information to fit our present reality. However, physical intellect has no direct touch with the spiritual world.
  2. The True Purpose of Torah: The text is written solely to serve as a magnet for the Light that Reforms (Ohr Maor HaMachzir LeMutav).
  3. Acquiring New Vessels (Kelim): Our battle with egoistic nature is learning to transition from trying to satisfy our current senses to demanding new vessels - a brand-new emotional capacity and a new awareness.
  4. Why the Metamorphosis? The Creator built this gap so that we build the higher degree ourselves through our effort. Operating across this gap grants us spiritual independence (Boreh – "Come and See").

Deep Dive: The Gift of Torah (Articles 9–11)

We took time to read together from The Gift of Torah (Matan Torah) by Baal HaSulam:

1. Root and Branch Alignment

  1. Every branch shares the nature of its Root. Whatever exists in the Root is pleasurable to the branch; whatever is absent from the Root causes pain, shame, and intolerance.
  2. Rest vs. Motion: Our Root is at complete rest; hence, we naturally love rest and hate unnecessary motion.
  3. Giving vs. Receiving: The Creator only bestows and never receives. Therefore, receiving unearned charity feels shameful and degrading, while giving brings warmth and joy.

2. Dvekut (Adhesion) is the Only Goal

  1. Intention is Everything: Spiritual work is not measured by the outer action (whether you give or receive). The action itself is neutral - just like a surgeon cutting a belly to heal versus a thief cutting to harm.
  2. Love as a Means: Love, giving, and receiving are all merely tools to achieve Equivalence of Form (Dvekut) with the Creator.

Workshop Question:

Do I seek love in order to give, or do I seek love merely to enjoy the feeling of giving?

Part 2: The Convention as a Quantum Leap

In our final clip, Rav Laitman shares a powerful metaphor about the nature of a convention:

"A convention is an event that accelerates time. It isn't written down anywhere; we must

create it to make a jump together. It’s like getting a ride that takes you straight to the

destination." Michael Laitman

Why attend the Convention?

Accelerated Growth: Gain the equivalence of a full year’s regular study in a single weekend.

Local & Global Connection: Meet fellow group members from your region and around the world.

Power of the Many: Tap into B'Rov Am Hadrat Melech ("In the multitude of people is the King's glory").

How to Accelerate the Process -

Opening the Heart: The jump depends on removing the barriers between us and revealing how much we need one another ("An individual shall help his neighbor").

Correcting Ourselves Together: You cannot fix yourself in isolation. By opening your heart and serving the environment, you allow the Surrounding Light to work on you.
